Year 5 and 6 Sports Hall Athletics - Basildon Sporting Village - Thursday 23rd October 2025

Today, our budding Athletes attended a Sports Hall Athletics competition at Basildon Sporting Village. The children competed in two track and two field events each to accumulate points for our school. First up was the Obstacle Relay where runners needed to complete the stepper, 10 speed bounces and hurdles in the quickest time possible - both the girls and the boys won their heats with spectacular speeds. Next was a series of sprint races, including 1 and 1 lap, 2 and 2 lap and a 6 lap. Each of these races were a pair effort, with Eziaku, Noelle, Ore and Temitayo taking first place for the 1 lap - a brilliant result! During the track events, the team competed for more points by completing field events such as Chest Push, Vertical Jump, Long Jump, Javelin and Speed Bounce. At the end of the competition, our points were added together from each event and Team Phoenix scored a whopping 276 points, finishing in 4th place, just 20 points away from a bronze medal! Well done to everyone. You worked incredibly well as a team and showed great team spirit throughout the competition, which showed in your performances. We even won the School Games Value Certificate for Teamwork to show for it. Go Team Phoenix!

Year 5 and 6 Dodgeball Tournament - Basildon Sporting Village - Thursday 9th October 2025

Today, we attended a Year 5 and 6 Dodgeball tournament at Basildon Sporting Village. We had an explosive start, winning against Janet Duke with some powerful shots then using that momentum to win our second game against Bardfield. After a few losses, the team worked hard to secure their third win against Ghyllgrove after a brilliant performance. Wanting to show our resilience and finish the tournament with pride, we worked together as a team to win 2 more games against Chapel Hill 1 and 2. Just missing out on a medal with 5 wins under our belt, Team Phoenix were awarded with the School Games Value certificate for Passion - which the team had bundles of throughout! Well done to everyone, you played extremely well and a special congratulations to our ‘Player of the Tournament’ Ore, who was simply phenomenal! Go Team Phoenix!

Year 5 and 6 Boys Football Tournament - The James Hornsby School - Thursday 25th September 2025

Today, we attended a Year 5 and 6 Boys Football Tournament at James Hornsby. With 21 teams in attendance, it was a huge turn-out! Team Phoenix were in Group 1, alongside St. Anne Line, Northlands, Ghyllgrove and Lee Chapel - very tough opposition, but we were ready for the challenge. Our first two games against Ghyllgrove and Northlands ended in a 1-0 loss, right in the last minutes of the game, after putting up a great fight. Finding our flow, our last two matches against St. Anne Line and Lee Chapel ended in a 1-1 draw with an unstoppable strike by Nana and an incredible halfway line chip over the keeper from Jordan. A wonderful display of resilience! At the end of the tournament, the team were awarded with a School Games Value certificate for honesty, chosen by the James Hornsby Sports Leaders. Well done to everyone on the team, you played amazingly well. Go Team Phoenix!

MAT International Day of Peace Tournament - Lee Chapel Primary School - Friday 19th September 2025

Today, we attended the annual MAT Football and Netball International Day of Peace Tournament at Lee Chapel. Our Phoenix teams held signs and flags up high to promote peace and kindness within sport. Our football team played 6 games altogether, with our biggest win being 2-1 against Chapel Hill and what a nail-biting end, nearly equalising with a volley against the winners of the tournament! For our netball team, this was the first tournament as a new team. What a performance! They played 5 games altogether, with their biggest win being 4-0 - a brilliant display of shooting. Everyone played with such resilience, respect and kindness throughout the tournament - making Phoenix very proud, well done! Go Team Phoenix!
